POSSIBLE TRIGGER
Ready for Batch status
A coordinator marks those 24 shots Ready for Batch. Each shot points to an approved plate, cut range and handles.
API USE CASE IDEAS
USE CASE IDEAS FOR POST AND VFX
Five ideas for connecting the Batch API to the tools and handoffs a post or VFX facility already uses.
These are workflow concepts, not packaged integrations. Use them as a starting point for your own build.
01 USE CASE IDEA: VFX PULLS
Send only the shots and frame ranges marked for roto.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER
A coordinator marks those 24 shots Ready for Batch. Each shot points to an approved plate, cut range and handles.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
A bridge stages each cut range plus handles, submits it to Batch, follows the job status and collects the matte.
POSSIBLE RESULT
The bridge places a versioned matte in the shot folder, makes an edge overlay QC movie and links both to the Autodesk Flow Production Tracking or ftrack task.
02 USE CASE IDEA: ARTIST REQUEST
Put the request inside the tool artists already use.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER
The artist selects a Read node or timeline clip, chooses People and confirms the frame range.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
A small facility tool stages the selected frames, submits the job and shows its progress.
POSSIBLE RESULT
The tool writes the matte beside the source media and adds a Read node or matte layer.
03 USE CASE IDEA: SHARED ROTO FOLDER
Give teams one familiar drop without another app or plugin.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER
The folder path chooses a subject such as People, Product, Hair or Sky.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
A small watch service waits for the copy to finish, prevents duplicate submissions and sends the plate to Batch.
POSSIBLE RESULT
Results / product_010 / v001 contains the matte and QC movie. Failed jobs move to Errors with a clear reason.
04 USE CASE IDEA: PRODUCTION TRACKING
Keep the request, progress and review in Flow Production Tracking or ftrack.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER
A custom bridge reads the approved plate, frame range, handles and chosen subject from the task.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
The bridge submits the media, checks Batch progress and writes Queued, Processing or Failed back to the task.
POSSIBLE RESULT
When complete, the integration publishes the matte, creates a QC version and moves the task to Ready for QC.
05 USE CASE IDEA: BEEBLE SWITCHX
Use the matte to hold a hero subject while testing a new background, look or lighting direction.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER
A team might choose a short source shot, an approved subject matte and a reference image.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
A custom bridge uses Batch to create a frame matched matte, then sends the source and matte to SwitchX as custom video alpha.
POSSIBLE RESULT
The bridge returns each generated version beside the source with its inputs and matte linked, then copies it to facility storage.
06 FROM IDEA TO PILOT
Use these examples as a jumping off point. Choose one show, one trigger, one subject, one publish path and one person responsible for QC.
POSSIBLE INPUT
Approved plate, frame range and subject
POSSIBLE OUTPUT
Versioned matte, QC movie and job status
Tell us how roto starts today and where you want the matte to land.
